We're a studio exploring systemic games and emergent gameplay out of Zurich. Partnering with people on the fringes of the swiss game development scene, lauflauf explores punchy visual worlds.

History

Run forward

Basil Sutter began studying Game Design at the Zurich University of Arts in 2016. Coming from a visual and illustrative background, he quickly became interested in systemic games and started experimenting with emergent gameplay behaviours and functionalities. After graduating and pursuing his interest in emergent gameplay and visually rich games, Basil founded lauflauf to explore one of his newer experiments further, a game prototype called “Untited Mecha Game". Out of a mentorship program initiated with Pro Helvetia the young studio gained the possibility to attend multiple events in Summer 21. Additionally the mecha game, now titled "Castle Come", entered the mentorship program at the Swiss Game Hub.

Castle Come

Through that program Sam joined first as a mentor and then in spring 2022 joined as a co-founder of lauflauf LLC. Coming in with a load of experience working in the European and Swiss Game Industry, Sam brings the eye of a strategist into the studio, setting up strong processes and enhancing the studios creative potential. Together, Sam and Basil run lauflauf studio in the heart of Zurich City, partnering with people inside and on the fringes of the swiss game development scene. They strive to build punchy visual worlds alongside vivid game mechanics.

Oh it’s still early

The team of lauflauf is still growing as the studio is pursuing the development of Castle Come. (Source:  https://press.lauflauf.games/index.php)
